Abena originally started as a small supplier with a modest product assortment. Today, Abena is a customer-focused, co-operative partner who develops, manufactures and sells quality products within a wide range of areas.
The Abena Group was founded in 1953, when Jens Terp-Nielsen established the company Saekko A/S in Aabenraa in Southern Denmark. The main activity concerned the sale of jute sacks for agriculture. Saekko A/S developed into a trading company and in 1980 we established our own production of baby diapers and sanitary towels under the brand Bambo. In the eighties the company began to export products to other countries, and today we sell our products in more than 80 countries worldwide.
In 2003 the company name changed to Abena, and today we employ more than 1,500 people worldwide, offering not only a wide assortment of hygiene articles, but also of plastic and paper products as well as waste systems, packaging and much more.
The Abena Group has full subsidiaries in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Holland, France, United Kingdom, Poland, USA, Iceland, China, Vietnam and Russia. More countries are continuously being added to the list as we expand our worldwide presence. Furthermore, Abena has a great number of distributors in Africa, America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand as well as in several European countries.
Abena is a family-owned Group with a strong and inspirational corporate culture where ethics, environment and good business acumen are paramount.
To mark the proud 50th anniversary of the Group in 2003, most of our subsidiaries changed their name to Abena and a joint logo was adopted.
